There are cases of tuberculosis throughout the year, with approximately 10,000 new infections occurring annually. Tuberculosis is primarily transmitted through respiratory droplets when infectious patients cough or sneeze, releasing droplets containing the bacteria into the air. Healthy individuals with strong immune systems may not exhibit symptoms immediately after infection. Once the tuberculosis bacteria enter the body, the immune response may not activate right away; the incubation period can last for an extended period, potentially even a lifetime. However, symptoms may later emerge due to reinfection or a decline in immunity.
In response to the annual World Tuberculosis Day and the World Health Organization's "Unite to End TB" campaign aimed at achieving the ultimate goal of"no infection, early screening, full treatment, and elimination of TB"In addition to regular annual chest X-ray screenings, the seven-point tuberculosis self-testing method is the simplest and most practical approach for screening for tuberculosis.
- The self-test consists of:
- Cough for 2 weeks (2 points)
- Cough with phlegm (2 points)
- Loss of appetite (1 point)
- Weight loss (1 point)
- Chest pain (1 point)
- When the total number of above symptoms reaches 5 points or more, it is recommended to seek medical attention immediately for early diagnosis and treatment.
